STAR answer guide

  • Situation: set the scene in one sentence.
  • Task: say what you had to achieve.
  • Action: explain what you did. Say “I”, not “we”.
  • Result: give the outcome with a number if you can, and what you learned.

How to practise for your interview

  1. 1. Choose your role

Pick the type of job. You get common questions for that role plus the general ones every interviewer asks.

  2. 2. Answer out loud

Read the question, start the timer and answer aloud as if you were in the room. Speaking is the real practice.

  3. 3. Check the tip

Reveal the tip to see what a strong answer includes, then try again or move on to the next question.

Why practise interview questions?

Confidence

Saying answers aloud makes them smoother on the day.

The STAR method

Use Situation, Task, Action, Result for experience questions, so your answers are clear and short.

Any order

Go through questions one by one or shuffle them, like a real interview.

Frequently asked questions

What is the STAR method?

It is a way to answer experience questions. Describe the Situation, the Task you had, the Action you took, and the Result you achieved. Keep it to about two minutes.

Are there model answers?

You get tips on what to include, not scripts. Your answer must come from your own experience, or the interviewer will notice.

How long should an answer be?

About one to two minutes for most questions. Use the timer to practise staying within that.

Is Interview Practice really free to use?

Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.

Is my information safe?

Yes. This tool works entirely inside your browser, so what you type is never sent to our servers. Anything saved for next time stays in your own browser only.
