Frequently asked questions

What CGPA do I need for First Class in Nigeria?

On the 5.0 scale, First Class starts at 4.50. On the 4.0 scale, it starts at 3.50. Some schools set the limit slightly differently, so check your school’s grading policy.

What is the difference between the 5.0 and 4.0 scales?

On the 5.0 scale an A is worth 5 points and the lowest pass grade is E. On the 4.0 scale an A is worth 4 points and the lowest pass grade is D. The class limits are different, so a CGPA number means a different class on each scale.

How do I calculate my own CGPA?

Multiply each course’s grade point by its credit units, add the results, then divide by your total credit units. The CGPA calculator does this for every semester.
