Resize an image to the file size you need

Portals often limit photographs and signatures to a few kilobytes. Pick your limit and the tool finds the best quality that fits.

Pick the limit your form asks for. Each page opens the Image Resizer with the size already set, and your picture stays on your device.

How file size and picture size are linked

A JPG file gets smaller when you reduce the number of pixels, the quality, or both. Starting points for a typical photo:

File sizePicture size to start with
10 KBabout 150 to 200 pixels wide
15 KBabout 200 pixels wide
20 KBabout 200 to 300 pixels wide
30 KBabout 300 to 400 pixels wide
50 KBabout 400 to 600 pixels wide
100 KBabout 600 to 800 pixels wide
200 KBabout 900 to 1200 pixels wide

These are starting points, not rules. Photos with detail need more bytes than a plain signature. Read the guide to reducing PDF and image size for more.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce a photo to under 100 KB?

Open the Image Resizer, type 100 in “Largest file size” and add your photo. The tool lowers the quality in small steps until it fits, and shrinks the picture a little if needed.

Why is my phone photo so large?

Phone cameras save pictures at 3000 pixels wide or more, which is several megabytes. For a form you only need a few hundred pixels, so resizing makes the file far smaller.
