INEC Opens 2027 Election Ad Hoc Staff Recruitment Portal, Apply Before November 18
URL slug: inec-2027-election-ad-hoc-staff-recruitment-portal
INEC has opened its portal for the recruitment of ad hoc staff for the 2027 general elections. The portal is called INECPRES, and it opened by 8am on Friday, September 18, 2026. It will close by midnight on Wednesday, November 18, 2026. If you’ve been wanting to work with INEC during elections and get paid for it, this is the form you need to fill, and you have a little under two months to do it.
INEC wants around 1.4 million ad hoc personnel this time. That’s the number of people they need to man over 176,000 polling units across the country. Ad hoc staff are not permanent INEC workers. They’re the people trained and brought in just for election duty, the ones you see checking your name on the register, giving you your ballot paper, and counting votes at the end of the day in front of everybody. Once the election is done, the job ends too.
Two elections are on the calendar for these ad hoc staff to work. The Presidential and National Assembly elections come first, on January 16, 2027. Then the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections follow on February 6, 2027. So if you get picked, be ready for both dates, not just one.
Positions you can apply for on the INECPRES portal
INEC is recruiting for five categories. Each one has its own entry requirements, so read carefully before you pick.
- Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs)
- Presiding Officers (POs)
- Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs)
- Registration Area Centre Managers (RAC Managers)
- Registration Area Technical Support staff (RATECHs)
You don’t get to apply for whichever one you like. The portal expects you to pick only the position you qualify for, and picking wrongly can get your application thrown out.
Who is eligible to apply for INEC ad hoc staff recruitment
Eligibility depends on the specific position, but broadly, INEC is looking at serving NYSC members, former corps members who finished their service within the last three years, students of federal and state tertiary institutions, federal and state government employees, permanent staff of ministries, departments and agencies, qualified INEC personnel, ICT professionals, and staff of institutions hosting Registration Area Centres.
Here’s how it breaks down by role:
- SPOs: For public and civil servants on Grade Level 10 to 14.
- POs and APOs: Open to tertiary institution students, and certain MDA staff with OND or NCE qualifications on Grade Levels 07 to 14, depending on the specific category.
- RAC Managers: For heads or staff (Grade Level 07 and above) of schools or institutions hosting a Registration Area Centre.
- RATECH: For people with ICT backgrounds. This includes INEC IT staff not currently engaged in other duties, and IT students of federal and state institutions.
Two rules apply across every category, and INEC won’t be lenient on these:
- You must not be a member of any political party, and you must not have shown or expressed support for any candidate or party.
- You must reside in the state you select for your assignment. RATECH applicants are the only exception to this one.
Documents and details to prepare before you start
Have these ready before you open the form, so network wahala or a sudden phone call doesn’t cut you off halfway:
- A working email address and phone number
- A personal bank account (in your own name, not a friend’s or a relative’s)
- A recent passport photograph
- Valid staff or student ID, where it applies to you
- NYSC call-up information, if you’re a serving or recently discharged corps member
- Your qualification documents
- A valid means of identification
How to apply on the INECPRES portal
- Go to the INECPRES portal at pres.inecnigeria.org, or reach it through the official INEC website.
- Read the instructions and the eligibility requirements listed for each position before choosing one.
- Select the one position you’re eligible for.
- Fill in your personal, educational and employment details. Enter everything accurately, a mistake here can cost you the slot.
- Review everything you typed before you hit submit.
- Submit your application, and keep your registration details somewhere safe for later reference.
Deadline: midnight, Wednesday, November 18, 2026. Don’t wait until the last day. Portals like this tend to slow down or crash as the deadline gets close, and that’s not INEC’s problem to fix for you once the clock runs out.
[LOCAL TIP: add a real detail from your own experience with the INECPRES portal or a past INEC ad hoc recruitment, something that usually catches applicants off guard]
Fake recruitment links going around for this INEC exercise
Any recruitment this size will attract scammers, and this one won’t be different. INEC has warned applicants to use only its official platforms when submitting personal details or documents. Don’t pay anybody who claims they can “secure” you a slot. Nobody outside the commission can guarantee you a place, and the application is something you do yourself, directly on the portal.
Where to get help if you have issues
If you run into trouble on the platform, reach INEC’s IT Service Management helpdesk, which is said to run round the clock.
