A student messaged me this morning from Kano.
“Brother Musa, my result still hasn’t shown. My friend’s own came out yesterday. Should I be worried?”
That kind of message has been landing in my inbox every year around UTME season.
And if your result was withheld, or you know someone whose result was, I understand the panic.
You start refreshing the portal every hour.
Then you check X.
Then WhatsApp groups.
Then somebody says “JAMB has cancelled everything.”
Another person says “No, they’ve released them.”
Everybody is talking. Nobody seems sure.
Here’s what has actually happened.
JAMB has released 279 UTME results that were previously withheld for investigation.
That means some candidates who had been waiting finally have access to their scores.
But not everyone.
Some results are still under review.
Some may eventually be cancelled if malpractice is confirmed.
And that waiting period can feel brutal.
Why JAMB withheld those results in the first place
JAMB didn’t randomly hold these results.
According to the board, the delay came from investigations around suspected exam malpractice.
This usually happens when:
- suspicious activity is flagged during the exam
- the live monitoring team reports irregular movement or unusual behavior at a CBT centre
- there are complaints or adverse reports from a centre
- biometric verification raises issues
- there are technical inconsistencies linked to a session or venue
That doesn’t automatically mean the candidate cheated.
And that part matters.
Sometimes an entire centre gets flagged because of what happened around them, even when many students there did nothing wrong.
That’s why some results eventually get released after review.
Which is what happened here.
JAMB reviewed the affected cases and cleared 279 of them for release.
If your result is still missing, don’t panic yet
I know that’s easier to read than to actually feel.
But if your result has not appeared yet, it does not immediately mean cancellation.
JAMB made it clear that some results remain withheld while investigations continue.
That means your case may still be pending review.
And JAMB has done this before.
Sometimes they release batches in phases.
Sometimes they take longer than students expect.
It’s frustrating.
Especially when admission deadlines feel close and everyone around you is already discussing cut-off marks.
Still, no result showing yet is not the same as “your admission is gone.”

How to check if JAMB has released your result
This part is straightforward.
Use the same phone number you registered with for UTME.
Send:
UTMERESULT
to:
55019 or 66019
JAMB says candidates whose results may have been released should use that method first.
Make sure:
- you use the exact phone number linked to your registration
- the SIM is active
- it has enough airtime for SMS charges
If your result has been released, JAMB will return your score through SMS.
If it is still withheld, the reply usually reflects that status.
You can also verify through the official JAMB portal before making any decisions.
Always double-check there.
The honest truth nobody tells students
Sometimes the delay itself becomes harder than the exam.
Not because of JAMB.
Because of people around you.
Your classmates already know their scores.
Your parents keep asking.
Relatives call.
Neighbors want updates.
People start saying things like:
“Maybe something happened.”
“Maybe your centre had issues.”
“Maybe JAMB caught people there.”
That noise can mess with your head fast.
I’ve seen students assume the worst long before JAMB says anything officially.
Please don’t do that to yourself.
Until JAMB updates your status, social media guesses mean nothing.
WhatsApp broadcasts are not official notices.
That screenshot somebody forwarded from “a friend working with JAMB” is not an announcement.
Stick to official updates.
Nothing else.
What happens if JAMB confirms malpractice?
This is where honesty matters.
If JAMB finds clear evidence of examination malpractice, affected results can be cancelled.
That includes situations involving:
- impersonation
- unauthorized devices
- collusion inside centres
- identity verification issues
- centre-wide malpractice
Once cancelled, the consequences can affect admission plans for that year.
If that happens, the next move depends on JAMB’s official communication.
Sometimes students may need to wait for the next UTME cycle.
Sometimes there may be additional instructions.
Verify this on the official JAMB portal before proceeding.
Policies can change.
What to do now if you’re affected
If your result was previously withheld, here’s what I’d do today.
1. Check through SMS immediately
Text UTMERESULT to 55019 or 66019 using your registration number’s linked phone line.
That remains the fastest first check.
2. Log into your JAMB profile
Check the portal yourself.
Look for:
- result status
- notifications
- messages tied to your application
Take screenshots of anything important.
3. Avoid paying anyone to “help release it”
This one annoys me every year.
Nobody can “unlock” your withheld result for a fee.
Nobody.
Not an agent.
Not a cybercafé operator.
Not somebody in a Telegram group.
If anyone asks you for money to “follow up with JAMB,” walk away.
4. Keep your documents ready
Have these close:
- JAMB registration number
- profile code
- phone used for registration
- exam details
- CBT centre details
If JAMB requests clarification later, you’ll want everything ready.
5. Follow only JAMB’s official updates
Use:
- JAMB official portal
- JAMB verified communication channels
- your registered SMS line
Ignore rumor pages.
Ignore forwarded voice notes.
Ignore panic merchants online.
My final thought
If your result just got released, breathe.
Check it carefully.
Download everything you need.
Start planning your admission steps.
If yours is still pending, I know the waiting is hard.
I’ve seen students lose sleep over this.
But until JAMB gives a final update, your story is still moving.
Keep checking through the approved channels.
Keep your records safe.
And don’t let the internet write your outcome before JAMB does.
